Establishment & Management

  • Origins: AIMS traces back to the Amala Cancer Hospital, established in 1978 as a nonprofit charitable institution focused on cancer care. It formally began functioning under that mission, spreading over a 40-acre campus on the slopes of Vilangan Hills .

  • Evolution: The medical college division began later (around 2002), and the institution was officially instituted as a postgraduate and super-speciality provider subsequently .

  • Administered by: The Devamatha Province of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), a Christian religious congregation founded in 1831. It operates as a Christian minority, non-profit institution

 

Academic Affiliation & Recognition

  • Affiliation: Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur .

  • Approval: Recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Government of Kerala.

 

Infrastructure & Healthcare Facilities

  • AIMS houses a vast array of healthcare and educational facilities, including a medical college, teaching hospital, super-speciality hospital, cancer hospital, cancer research center, Ayurvedic and homeopathic hospitals with research centres, nursing institutions, a pharmacy production unit, and Bethanygram (a home for the aged).

  • The hospital boasts 1,300+ beds, 210+ ICU beds, 25 modular operating theatres, a fully integrated Hospital Information System (HIS), and a digital radiology department.

 

Courses & Student Intake

  • MBBS: Annual intake of 100 seats. The course duration aligns with the standard — 4.5 years + 1-year internship .

  • Postgraduate (MD/MS): Offers multiple clinical and para-clinical disciplines with seat distribution under government, Christian minority, and NRI quotas .

  • Super-specialty (DM/M.Ch): Available in selected branches, per NMC guidelines.

 

Seat Quota Distribution

  • MBBS:

    • Christian Minority Quota: 50%

    • Government Quota: 35%

    • NRI Quota: 15% .

  • PG (MD): Government 23 seats, Minority 15, NRI 08 .

  • PG (MS): Government 06 seats, Minority 05, NRI 01.

 

Admissions Process

  • Admission via NEET-UG for MBBS and NEET-PG / NEET-SS for PG and super-specialty courses, followed by counseling through karnataka CEE for state quota and MCC for All-India/NRI quota .
