Birat Medical College Teaching Hospital

Birat Medical College (BMC) is a private medical school located in Tankisinuwari, Biratnagar, Nepal. Established in 2014, it is affiliated with Kathmandu University and is recognized by the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Courses offered

  • Duration: 5.5 years total: 4.5 years of academic/clinical study + 1 year compulsory residential internship. 

  • The academic portion is divided into 9 units/semesters (each 6 months) — first ~4 units are basic medical sciences; the rest are clinical sciences. 

  • Medium of instruction: English.

  • Intake: ~ 100 seats for MBBS per year. 

 

Eligibility criteria

For admission to the MBBS program, candidates must meet the following general requirements: 

  • Age: Must be at least 17 years old by December 31st of the admission year.
  • Education: Completion of 10+2 or an equivalent qualification with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Minimum Marks: A minimum of 50% marks in the 10+2 qualifying exam for general category students (45% for reserved categories).
  • Entrance Exam: Must have a valid score in the NEET (for Indian students) or the equivalent entrance exams recognized by Kathmandu University. 

 

Facilities & Infrastructure

  • Campus size: ~33 acres

  • Laboratories, dissection hall, anatomy museum, etc. 

  • Hostel facilities: separate hostels for boys and girls; furnished, with mess; basic amenities like internet, electricity etc. 

  • Teaching Hospital: BMC has its own teaching hospital (multispecialty) which provides clinical rotations. Patient load is significant, giving exposure.
